Color Replacement Tutorial for Photoshop – From Autumn to Summer
Firstly, open the image. you can use the image provided above, I used the same image. Its always advisable to copy the original image and put it on another layer on top, so you can easily delete it without destroying the original image in case of a mistake.
Locate the Color replace tool. You can find it in the Image Menu under Adjustments, select Replace color…
I will be showing you exactly where to click so you get the same effect I did, click the area shown with a red dot in the image below, while the color replace tool is open:
Once you have selected that area, you will see the area with the same color brighten up on the color replace tool, this area represents the color in the image you have selected, wherever it is in the image and is the area you will be affecting if you change something:
You will have to choose the color you want to replace the original color to, you can do that by clicking on the colored area below ‘Result’. Replace the color with the color code provided in the image above.
You will get the following result:
We are going to be repeating the same thing a lot of times in this tutorial to replace color from all the areas of the leaves. Now with the replace tool open, click on the area shown by a red dot inthe image below:
Once you click that area, you will see the actual selected area brighten up on the color replace tool window:
This time since we are getting an opportunity to affect small patches on one or two leaves more than others in particular, we can put in light green patches, to make it look a bit more natural. Replace the color with the color code given in the image above, to get the result in the image below:
Open the replace tool again and click on the area shown in the image below:
Use the color code in the image below to replace the color in the highlighted area in the replace tool window:
You should get the following result:
Open the replace tool again and look for a small black arrow on the reddish part of the leaves on the left side of the image, click on that area as shown in the image below:

By now we have replaced most of the yellow color from all the leaves. Now, to get rid of some of the redness from some of the leaves, click on the area in the image below:

Use the color code in the image below to replace the color in the highlighted area in the replace tool window:
Once done, you should see most of the redness disappear from the leaves, the rest will be removed in the next step:
Now there are some leaves on the bottom of the image that are still a bit light brown or yellowish, plus all the stems are not green either, as they should be in a healthy leaf. Click on the area shown by a small black arrow at the bottom of the image below:
Once clicked, you will see most of the outlines of the leaves selected including their stems, plus the bottom leaves area where its a bit light brown or yellowish. Replace the color, with the color code provided in the image below:
You should now see good healthy green leaves, but we are not done yet:
You may skip this step, if you feel its not necessary, but if you want to get rid of some of the sharpness of the image, this will get rid of the barely visible white outlining on the curled leaf on the bottom, the outline is also in the original image, created by sunlight, we can easily remedy that, we are going to add apply the Gaussian Blur Filter. You can find it in the Filters menu, under Blur. Apply the following setting on the filter to get the final result:
