coukld someone explain to me how this works?? i just dont understand how you make one image a template. and how you code it. could someone please clarify?

When you design a website on photoshop, basically it gives you the option to output as html.
From there on you can manipulate it according to your needs.
I would recommend reading up a few tutorials on this before attempting it, can be tricky.

i see, so does surfnlearn.com have any tutorials on slicing? and can it be done in photoshop 7.
also any way to do this in gimp?
Definitely... try searching for slicing or slice on the main site.
I dont know about Adobe Photoshop 7 though and I have never used gimp.
found one but it only told you how to slice the specific design
found one on youtube that helped but it used cs3. =.=
found out that there are a few plug-ins for gimp but the one i read the most about turned the slices into tables which
kinda sucks.
finally found out about something called gimp#
written in C# has a slice tool ( lol about time ).
im gonna test it out, =.=
i really hate things that need .net framework.
